That is a starting price. The pages we checked do not say which plan length or box size it applies to, and they do not show the price for each plan and size. Plan lengths and what comes in the box

According to the join page, BarkBox offers 1, 6 and 12 month plans. The box is described as two toys, two bags of treats and a third item, built around a monthly theme. The join page also says shipping is free for subscribers.

The plan length matters to the cost. The subscriptions page says some subscriptions may auto-renew when the term ends and that cancellation takes effect at the end of the current term. The join page adds that ending a multi-month commitment early means contacting their customer support team. A starting price tells you little until you know how long you are agreeing to.

What to compare when two boxes cost different amounts

A lower monthly number is only half of the story. Before you decide, compare these:

1. What arrives. Toys, treats, chews and a surprise item are different things with different price tags and different lifespans in your house.
2. Commitment length. One month, six months, or a minimum number of shipments.
3. What you pay first and what you pay after. A low opening price and a renewal price are two numbers. Look for both.
4. Shipping. Is it included, or does it change your total at checkout?
5. How skipping and cancelling work. Find out before you pay, not after.

Our numbers, plainly

Modified Monthly is a different kind of box: treats only, made in small batches in Pennsylvania. Our first box is $1. After that it is $50 every month, and shipping is free on every box. The $1 offer needs three paid shipments, which means the first box and two more at $50 each, plus taxes. Leaving sooner is a one-time $49 early cancellation charge.

That is not a like-for-like price comparison with a box that includes toys. It is a different thing in a different shape. Our first box price, renewal price and minimum are all stated on this page. Subscribers can also skip or pause a month, though a skipped month does not count toward the minimum.

Is any box worth it?

Worth is about use. A toy that your dog drops after a minute costs the same as one they carry for a month. A treat your pet works for and finishes costs the same as one they sniff and ignore. So measure what your pet actually uses.

If your pet is a treat motivated co-pilot, a treats-only box makes the math easy: everything in it gets used. If toys are what get worn out, a toy box may suit you better. We would rather you pick the right box than the cheaper one.
