General information, not veterinary advice
The guides, comparisons, answers and feeding tips on modifiedmonthly.com are general information about pet treats and treat boxes. They are not veterinary advice, and they are not a diagnosis or treatment plan for any animal. Sniff & Shift LLC is a treat maker, not a veterinary practice, and nothing on this Site creates a veterinarian and client relationship.
Ask your vet about your own pet
Every dog and cat is different. Before you start a treat box, talk with a licensed veterinarian if your pet:
- has a health condition, a sensitive stomach, or a food allergy or intolerance;
- is on a prescription or special diet;
- is a puppy, a kitten, pregnant, nursing or a senior; or
- has never had a particular protein or ingredient before.
What is in your box can change
Modified Monthly has a new theme and lineup each month, and the treats, quantities and sizes in a box vary from month to month. Photos on this Site are examples. Because the contents change, read the ingredient information for every treat each time a box arrives, and check it against your pet's allergies and sensitivities before you feed it. If you tell us about proteins your pet loves or should skip, we use that to choose treats, but we cannot promise that a box will be free of any ingredient. Do not rely on a preference note to manage an allergy. If an ingredient is a problem for your pet, do not feed that treat.
Treats are a supplement, not a meal
Treats are for intermittent or supplemental feeding. They are not a complete and balanced diet. Keep treats to a small share of your pet's daily calories and adjust meals if you give more treats. Your vet can tell you what amount is right for your pet.
Feed with care
Always supervise your pet while it eats a treat. Pick a piece size that suits your pet's size and chewing habits, break larger pieces if needed, and keep fresh water available, especially with freeze-dried and air-dried treats. Stop feeding a treat and contact your vet if you notice vomiting, diarrhea, itching, choking or any other change that worries you. In an emergency, call your vet or an emergency animal hospital right away.
Nutrition facts from outside sources
Where this Site mentions nutrition facts about a food in general, it cites a named public source such as USDA FoodData Central. Those figures describe the food, not our treats specifically, and they are not a claim that any treat will prevent, treat or cure a condition.
