Dog dad gifts
Gift ideas for a dog dad and the dog beside him
Updated
The best gifts for dog dads tend to be the plain, sturdy things he uses before work and on weekends: a hook by the door, a towel for muddy paws, a headlamp for dark walks. For his dog, a monthly treat box can go to his US address, minus any proteins the dog refuses.
What do dog dads use every week?
Plenty of dog dads never ask for anything. They do the early walk, the late walk and the weekend hike, and they replace gear only when it falls apart. That makes the useful gift obvious: the thing he would buy himself if he got around to it.
- A sturdy hook or rack by the door for leashes and jackets
- A towel that lives near the back door for muddy paws
- A headlamp for walks in the dark months
- A water bottle with a fold-out bowl
- A pair of walking gloves with real grip
Skip the novelty items. A mug that says something clever about dogs gets a laugh and a cupboard shelf. A towel by the door earns its place every wet week. If you know his routine, buy for the hour of the day that is hardest, which for many people is the wet morning walk before work.
Pick one or two things from the list, not all five. A short pile is easier to wrap and easier to say thank you for.
How can the kids give a Father's Day gift from the dog?
The dog cannot wrap anything, so the kids act as the dog's staff. The easiest present is a paw-print card. Press the paw on a washable stamp pad, then onto a folded card, and let the kids write the words. A drawing of the dog in his favorite chair works as well.
Two more ideas that need no shopping. Take a photo of the dog sitting in his chair and print it for the fridge. Or plan a walk together that the kids choose, with the dog out in front and the dad allowed to follow. A walk the kids planned counts as a gift in its own right.
There is no theme, date or shipping day to manage here. Whatever the kids make is the present, and the dog gets the credit.
Does a gift for his dog count as a gift for him?
Often, yes. That is our opinion and not a statistic, but many dog dads are happier watching the dog open something than opening a box themselves. A treat box lets you give him that.
Ours is called Modified Monthly. Each treat is one ingredient, made by us and freeze dried or air dried in small batches in Malvern, Pennsylvania. Themes and lineups turn over monthly. Favorites come back, the rest shifts, and the product photos are only examples.
As a gift, it ships to his address, any US address, while you remain the one ordering. You pick Dog or Cat. His dog's no list goes in when you order, and you can contact us any time after that to adjust it. The treats inside count as intermittent or supplemental feeding, the kind of thing that goes in a jacket pocket for the walk, and we do not give feeding advice.
Tell him plainly that this is a subscription. Renewal is spelled out in the terms right beside the start button; check them there. For a walkthrough of ordering for someone else, read our dog gift box guide, and the Modified Monthly page has the box in full.
What if he is a car person too?
Then he has a second shopping list, and it belongs to a different guide. Our gifts for car lovers with dogs page is written for him, so we leave those ideas there. Start with it if his garage matters as much as his leash.
Everything else on this page still works for him. Browse the guides hub for the rest of our reading.
Questions
What do you buy a dog dad for Father's Day?
Pick one useful thing for the walks, like a towel or a headlamp, and let the kids add a card with a paw print. If you want the dog involved, a treat box for his dog is a gift he gets to watch being opened.
What is a good birthday gift for a dog dad?
Something he would use before he thought to buy it: a leash hook, gloves, a bottle with a bowl. Add a card in the dog's handwriting, which is to say a paw print. The dog then appears on the gift list without much effort.
Can the treat box go to his address instead of mine?
Yes, as long as his address is in the US. Type it in as the shipping address when you order, and choose Dog or Cat. You stay the buyer; only the delivery goes to him.
What if his dog is picky about treats?
Name the proteins the dog skips when you order. If you do not know yet, you can contact us later, naming the dog, to change them. The lineup is new each month, so that list is the main control there is. We cannot promise any one treat is a hit.
Is a treat box a good gift from the kids?
It can be, if a grown-up places the order. Pair the box with a handmade card from the kids, and they have something to hand over besides a drawing, though the drawing is welcome too.
Can I send a box for each of his dogs?
Yes, and you would need to, since each pet gets its own box. Dogs that share his home get the same lineup. A cat in the house would take a Cat box, ordered as its own choice.
