Valentine's Day
A Valentine's present for the person with the dog
Updated
A Valentine's Day gift for dog owners can skip the roses and go to the dog: a monthly box of our treats keeps arriving at their US address long after the day itself. Pick dog or cat, name any proteins their pet skips, and the terms show beside the button before you start.
Who on your list would rather get something for their dog?
Start with the person, not the holiday. Some people want dinner and a card. Others light up when you do something for the animal that greets them at the door. If your partner already narrates the dog's day over breakfast, you have your answer.
The same logic works beyond couples. A friend with a dog, a parent who has taken one in, a sibling who sends you photos every week: any of them might be happier with a present that includes their dog than with another box of the usual thing. Valentine's Day is a handy excuse to say so. If you want other ideas for the same crowd, the dog gift box page is a good place to browse.
Keep it plain. A gift for the dog is a way of saying you pay attention to what matters in their house.
How does the gift work for a partner you live with?
Under your own roof, there is less to figure out. The box comes to your own door, so you can hide it or hand it over on the day. You already know the dog, which means you know the proteins to leave out. Name them when you order, and you are done.
One box covers one pet. If you have two dogs, you order a box for each, and pets of the same kind in one home get the same lineup. A dog and a cat in the same house means two boxes, one of each kind.
The treats in a Modified Monthly box are ours, single ingredient and freeze dried or air dried in small batches in Malvern, Pennsylvania. Each month has a new theme and lineup, and favorites return while the assortment changes. Contents change by month, and photos are examples. Because the treats are for intermittent or supplemental feeding, they sit beside regular meals and do not replace them.
How do you send one to someone far away?
Any US address will do for the delivery. Type theirs in at checkout, pick dog or cat, and name the proteins to skip. If you are not sure what to put, ask. A quick text about the dog's likes and dislikes does not give the surprise away, and it keeps the first box from missing the mark.
You can also leave the list open and let them change it later. They can contact us any time to change the proteins, naming the pet. We do not give feeding advice, so if their dog follows a special diet, they can ask their veterinarian. Full details on the box are on the Modified Monthly page.
What goes with it on the day itself?
The box does not need to arrive on the day, so give the day something of its own. A handwritten card says more than the box can. Mention the dog by name. A walk together, just the two of you and the leash, costs nothing and gets remembered. A framed photo of their dog on a shelf will outlast any bouquet.
Nothing edible for the dog beyond the box is needed. Keep the rest about time and attention. For more gift ideas for the same person, our gift for dog lovers guide goes through several, and the guides page has the rest of our reading.
Questions
Is a treat box a good Valentine's gift for a dog lover?
It suits someone who enjoys doing things for their dog. The box is for the pet, so it lands as a gesture and not as an object to store. If the person is not attached to the dog, a card and dinner may serve better.
Can I send it to my partner at a different address?
Yes, to any US address. Use their address for shipping, and let them know to expect it. If you live apart, ask which proteins their dog skips so the first box fits.
What if their pet is a cat?
Choose Cat when you order. The form offers Dog or Cat for each box, so a cat owner gets the cat side of the lineup. Someone with both animals can receive two boxes, a Dog box and a Cat box.
Does the gift keep going after February?
It is a subscription, and the terms show beside the button before you start. Read them, and tell the recipient what to expect so there are no surprises. Each month brings a new theme and lineup, so the gift keeps showing up after the card is gone.
What if the dog's skip list is a mystery to me?
Ask them, or ask someone who lives in the house. If you cannot, order without a list and let them change it later. They can contact us any time, naming the pet, and we will update the proteins.
How do I tell them it is coming?
Put it in a card on the day. A line like "there is a box for the dog on its way" is enough, and it saves them wondering about the package. Keep it short and let the dog's name do the work.
